چکیده

One aspect of the study of cancer is the examination of records of the disease as it manifests itself in various parts of the world. The mortali ty records of the separate countries are fertile sources of information concerning the effects on the disease of varied climatic conditions, soils, diets, social habits, and race. Although death reports of the European countries as well as those of the United States have been extensively tabulated and studied, examination of reports for countries such as Egypt have not often been made. The reported cancer mortality rate in Egypt was 27.2 per 100,000 inhabitants in 1942. This rate is low compared with 122.1 in the United States and 183.4 in England and Wales for the same year. Its meaning with respect to the incidence of cancer in Egypt merits consideration, and forms the objective of the present paper.

Background: Breast Cancer (BC), the second leading cause of cancer mortality after lung cancer and varied across the world due to genetic and environmental factors. In this study, we evaluated the interaction between the polymorphisms in genes encoding enzymes of folate metabolism: methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), methionine synthesis reductase (MTR) with the BC prognostic factors. ...

Plasma Circulating Cell-free Nuclear and Mitochondrial DNA as Potential Blood Biomarkers for Breast Cancer

Incidence rates of breast cancer are rising and mortality rates are proportionally high in Arab countries compared to rates in developed countries. The common late diagnosis among Arab women has been related to the low participation rates of Arab women in breast cancer screening activities (Donnelly et al., 2012). In Egypt, breast cancer is still considered number one killing cancer in females ...

O6-Methylguanine-DNA Methyltransferase and ATP-Binding Cassette Membrane Transporter G2 Promotor Methylation: Can Predict the Response to Chemotherapy in Advanced Breast Cancer?

Background: ATP-binding cassette membrane transporter G2 (ABCG2) gene is one of transporter family and well characterized for their association with chemoresistance. Promoter methylation is a mechanism for regulation of gene expression. O6-Methyl guanine DNA methyl transferase (MGMT) gene plays a fundamental role in DNA repair. MGMT has the ability to remove alkyl adducts from DNA at the O6 pos...
